The other thing that I was just thinking about was adapting the Conti PCM to the Taurus PATS module...I'm wondering if they are similar/the same, and if you can just "plug and play" with the PCM/PATS module (provided the Ford dealer will program it for you).

Otherwise, I assume you'd need to get a PATS disable module, like you would use with a remote start system.

Well, the Continental block is drilled differently for the AX4N bell housing, hower i am not sure i read anywhere if the RWD blocks are drilled for FWD mounts and RWD mounts... However, you dont even need the cobra block, AFIK everthing from the Cobra 4.6 (dohc i am assuming) will bolt up to this engine... a very large interchange on parts for the DOHC.

According to this site on the Wikipedia, the 96-2001 Cobra blocks were aluminum, and the 2003-2004 blocks were cast iron.

Holy Crap was looking on Ebay for Lincoln Continental engines. you wont believe the cheap prices, shoot 400$ for engine total and some cheaper, for 400$ this would be the ultimate upgrade regarded you have the time

there was a 350 powered CRX that won the burnout contast at nopi. AND it retained the stock look. Stock hood closed and everything.

I have also seen a 80s golf with a Northstar motor on the intarweb. That was crazy right there.

that is corrrect. The '03 Cobra's (Terminator) got cast iron blocks to increase strength when the blower was added.

I don't think anyone should be eating crow at this point, I still wanna see it run with air conditioning and ALL electronics functional before I say it has been done, I can take a PSD 7.3 and stuff it into a Jeep but will it actually pull the vehicle, will you have all the creature comforts such as air conditioning, will it handle properly, will it be able to pass a safety inspection for on the road use or will it wind up being a track only car?

Yes the subrame is the same, but that's just showing the steel can support it, once all is said and done and this car can be street legal, then I'll say it was a success.

Otherwise, a good story for a track car but completely useless for any other purpose.

The 3.4 SHO engine leaves nearly NO room for any type of repairs, and this 4.6 takes any of that away absolutely.

I'll put my 240hp SHO up against it if it's got all the functioning options my car came with from the factory, I highly doubt the 4.6 would win considering the power to weight ratio that's been beat to death, yet everyone seems to keep overlooking this fact.

Naysayers unite, it still has NOT been done. dry.gif

I agree. By no means is bolting a subframe in anything special.

But all the same, he is bold enough to spend the money to try somthing experemental. I encourage him to keep going and ask any questions.

But im kinda confused why it is "absolutly amazing". Its very neat. but no actual work has yet been done.

Like i said. Im not hating at this point. Theres alot of work ahead, and I wish hime the best!

As far as eating crow there are a bunch of people that made rude statements, called the guy a liar, and all kinds of sarcasm.

This is the mans original post

I know that I am going to sound like some troll here, but I have to say this now. I have a 1999 Ford Taurus with a 4.6 32v V8. And I didn't have to cut anything from the Taurus body for it to fit! If you all believe me, I will explain what I did and how I did it. Thanks! Oh, and how far will flex hose for radiators bend? Thank you!

He never said anything about all the electronics functioning perfectly or it keeping cool or being a 10 second drag car.

All he really claimed was that he had a Taurus with the V8 installed and was asking questions about the flex hoses.

I expect that kind of crap from teenagers and people that have never fabricated anything in their life but some of the worst comments came from people that have been around here quite a while.

no you dont.....

Post pictures and then ill consider believing you. And whats witht he question?

BTW: how are you installing an engine and asking the qustions you are? Plus, untill its all up and running, you have no claim to fame. I had a 5 speed sitting in my engine bay at one point. Does not mean that it will work or that i should go around claiming "i have a 5-speed taurus".

-Brad

Brad

You called Bullshit on the guy and flat told him he did not have a Taurus with a V8 in it.

I know it means nothing but I feel you were wrong.

And actually mounting that engine was quite feat in my opinion.

You havent done it. Neither has anyone else here.

It may never run right or he might be able to get it running great. I dont know what the future holds but he damn sure had to get it in there before the project could go farther

True, there were some rash comments made, but I think the general idea here is to produce a street legal vehicle, he has embarked on a Frankenstien like project that still needs the neck bolts and stitches installed.

Until then all he has done was implanted an unlikely engine on an unforgiving chassis.

I'm not a teenager nor an unexperienced DIY'er, I fix vehicles for a living, so I think I have a little bit of knowledge concerning this subject.

Look back at the video posted of the Honduh with the blown big block, yeah anything can be done, but you notice that car won't pass any states certification for street legal use.

Perhaps he should have stated this project as just what it is, an experiment instead of coming across like (see your all wrong, it can be done).

Not really. You lower the vehicle onto the subframe after the engine is mounted, all you have to do is clear the body going down.
